'Canadian Lumber Standard' or CLS is used primarily in the construction of timber frame houses and also in internal and partition walls. Although as the name suggests it is of Canadian origin, CLS is now sourced from Europe also.
Although our CLS is graded to C16/C24 we also insist that it is wane free and straight. Both of which are important criteria for this product and its application. Ensuring wane free is a straight forward production issue. Ensuring the timber stays straight, whilst production has some influences ie. Kilning correctly, it is more important to know where the raw material comes from. Slow grown close grained fibre gives greater strength and stability along the length

CLS is produced from kiln dried spruce (whitewood), planed and finished with eased edges to precise tolerances and in accordance with British Standards to either C16 or C24 grade. The CLS materials we stock are imported from a range of countries. The product originated for the Canadian market, which gave it its name - "Canadian Lumber Standard". It is now mainly produced and imported from both Canada and Europe.
